I grew up in a small rural town in California with many family members and friends residing there, and so I was allowed to run fairly free, out of doors. I knew I wanted to be an artist from a very young age, but somewhere along the way I bought into the lie that being an artist wasn’t a real career. The older I got the more unrealistic it became.
Life got busy; I got married, had four babies, and then homeschooled our children all the way through high-school. I worked part-time as a seamstress and wrote articles and patterns for many craft magazines and books, but always kept the dream of painting someday “when I had the time” in the back of my mind.
As our youngest child enter high-school, I had an epiphany that there was no time like now. I was afraid of failing, but not painting was already a failure in itself. I had been praying about it quite a bit when I heard God whisper to my heart, “just paint 100 mediocre paintings”. I thought, “Ok, I can do that”, and that began my journey of painting almost everyday.
I have sold many paintings since that day, but am still learning everyday. In fact, I plan to be a perpetual student of painting, always learning and never having arrived.
I am heavily influenced by the classical impressionists but strives to bring about elements of expressionism as well into my paintings. I use color fearlessly and am always striving to "capture the light". I want my paintings to invoke the emotions of my subjects and especially the wild feelings of being out of doors surrounded by the beauty of nature.
I currently live in Summerville, South Carolina but this year my husband and I are currently traveling the US while I paint it’s beauty and landscapes.
