Glassy Waters: An Original Oil Study
14 x14
Glassy Waters is a focused exploration of color and reflection, captured at the edge of the Isle of Palms. This 14" x 14" original oil painting documents the precise moment the Lowcountry sky turns a luminous melon orange, casting a vibrant glow that is mirrored perfectly in the stillness of the tidal creek.
This work is a study in color harmony—specifically the interplay between the warm, sun-drenched sky and the cool, periwinkle blue of the evening clouds. It captures the "Tranquil In-Between," where the salt marsh feels both vibrant and deeply still.
The Artistry: Expressive Impasto
Despite its intimate scale, this painting features bold, expressive brushwork and the physical texture of my signature impasto style.
-
The Technique: I used a palette knife to build up the "sweet green" grasses and the brilliant sky, creating a sculptural surface that allows the oil pigments to catch and reflect the ambient light in your room.
-
The Palette: The contrast of vibrant melon and soft periwinkle creates a sophisticated, modern energy, making this an ideal anchor piece for a smaller wall or a curated gallery collection.
