Tidal Creek Drift - Original Lowcountry Charleston Marsh Square Oil Painting
Tidal Creek Drift: An Original Oil Study
20" x20"
Tidal Creek Drift is an exploration of the quiet, winding pathways that define the South Carolina Lowcountry. This original work captures a singular moment of stillness along a tidal creek, where the water acts as a mirror for the sun-drenched marsh grasses. It is a study of "Atmospheric Stillness"—the feeling of being entirely present in the slow, rhythmic pull of the tide.
In this piece, I sought to document the "drift" of the landscape—the way the golden reeds seem to vibrate in a coastal breeze and the soft, blurred reflections that move across the water’s surface.
The Artistry: Texture & Movement
Originally rendered in my signature impasto style, this painting utilizes deliberate, layered brushwork to create a sense of three-dimensional space.
-
The Technique: I used a palette knife to sculpt the light on the marsh grasses, creating a tactile surface that catches the shifting light in your home.
-
The Palette: The warm ochres and sun-bleached greens are balanced by the cool, hazy blues of the water, creating a sophisticated color story that brings a sense of calm to any interior.
